Come What May and Love It

Yeah yeah...I know no one reads this blog, but I still should be doing a better job at keeping a blog than what I am doing. So here is to a new year! I have made it through my first semester of college. Oh what a CRAZY semester it has been! So here is a basic overview of my first semester at BYU: 1. I got pretty good grades -All A's, with one A- and one B+. I consider that good- hopefully I can keep it up this second semester as I am taking American Heritage. American Heritage is know to most Freshman as the worst class in the world. People are happy when they get over 50% on the tests. Sound like fun? Yep-that is what I am entering into. 2. I have made the most amazing friends . I am not going to deny that there has been some major drama between some people, but I still have met some of the best people I have ever met. I have been loving almost every second of my first semester because of these people. We have had some fun times having hot chocolate, tim-tam slams, and go

You want me to be honest? I really have no idea what Freshman Mentoring is or what it is good for. But it is required, so I have to do it. I had to sign up for a 'bundle'. The first bundle I signed up for was just a general writing class. I am actually very excited for it! I hope that it won't be too hard, but I also hope that I learn a lot. Oh, and did I mention that it is at 8 am! Sigh...I think this will actually be better in the long run. Hopefully... The second bundle I signed up for was suggested for elementary education majors. It combines biology and human development. Basically, all that means is a lot of people will be in both classes with me. I am excited for this, so that I will be get to know people with the same major. Also, I think these will be some of my favorite classes. I am actually excited that my college schedule is forming. It makes me so excited to see my future falling into place. CRAZY!

I know I have been a little behind in these posts. I have been planning them in my head, but have been unable to get the time to write them down...so I have a little catching up to do. After the last (and very disappointing) post, I thought I would share one of the many blessings in my BYU life as of right now.Housing.I officially have a place to stay next year!! I am staying in the David John Hall next year in a shared suite. What is a share suite? I am glad you asked. A shared suite is a room at BYU that has four girls sharing a bathroom. Let me get a picture of the floor plan... Isn't it pretty? :) My bed is the blue one. So I am really excited to move in. It just seems so unreal that my dream of going to BYU is finally coming true! Everything is falling into place.

I know it has been a long time since I post. Two things have happened since the last post. One good, and one not so good--so I am going to post them in two different posts. First, for the not so good. I didn't get a scholarship. I found out during fourth hour a few weeks ago and I was devastated. I could not believe it. Luckily I have fifth hour seminary (and a very understanding seminary teacher), a mom who loves me very much, and did not have to work that night (or the next). As soon fourth hour ended, I ran out to my car crying. I thought that I would get SOMETHING...ANYTHING. But I didn't. So I came home and just sat with my mom and cried. My dad was out of town for work, so us girls decided to do something fun for dinner. We went to the store and got strawberries and whip cream and came home and made strawberry/chocolate pudding parfaits. It was delicious! Even though I was sad, I was counting my blessings for having such a wonderful mother who knows exactly what w

So I got an email yesterday saying that I will get to choose my housing on April 1st. Really, that is pretty good. Housing opens for others on March 28th...and I have heard as far away as April 13th. So I am counting my blessings and hoping that everything that I want to work out will work out. :) Come what may and love it!

My goodness. College changes everything (even before you get there). After being accepted to BYU and seeing all the numbers of how much stuff costs, here is a breakdown: Tuition: $4,420 (for 2 semesters!!) This is a lot better than every other college I have applied for. Housing: $3,450 (for 2 semesters) Meal Plan: $3,680 (for 2 semesters) See the previous post for what meal plans I was thinking about. So now every time I want to spend money, two questions cross my mind: Do I really need it right now? Can I use it next year? You can imagine when I am asking myself those questions, I end up not buying anything. What I am looking for right now is winter clothing. I already have a good heavy jacket, but the only things I am willing to spend money on is long sleeve shirts and tights at this point. You can

College is EXPENSIVE ! I had always known college cost lots of money-but with BYU costing about $3000 per semester tuition, I thought it wouldn't be that bad. What people DON'T tell you is that it cost a ton to just live while in college. I got an email today telling me that on March 9th, they will send me another email telling me when I can sign up for housing. So I have been looking up all this information about different housing on campus and meal plans. There are so many options and choses that have to be made. If you are bad at making decisions that are life altering...college is definitely not for you. Just to make sure that you are going to be fed everyday is a chore. There are about four or five meal choices that people have at BYU. Right now I am deciding between two. Dining Plus COST: $3,990/ semester DAILY ALLOCATION: 11.10 'Dining Dollars' Anything that is not spent at the end of the day will be added on

So it is officially official. I have been accepted into Brigham Young University (Provo). Right now it is exciting, and nerve racking. This is the school I have always wanted to go to since I first step foot into the BYU bookstore when I was five. It is just crazy that I am actually old enough to be going to college. I am basically creating this blog to document my journey. From the acceptance letter to my final graduation. I pray that this blog will not be too boring, not that very many (if any) people will read it. It is more for my benefit, that I can document everything I am going through (and try to get better at journal writing).
